1. Start a blog and write great content.  

Blogs are great free marketing tools. They present a channel for you to establish expertise and connect with your audience.  Consistency, patience, value, and engaging content are keys to success.

2. Start a how-to video series on YouTube.  

Do your products and services lend themselves more to video?  If so, use YouTube to share value and gain followers. As with a blog, consistent and engaging content will pay off over time.  Loyal followers will spread the word and more business will follow.

3. Create infographics.  

Many people find images more engaging and memorable than the written word.  You can hire a great designer to help you make an infographic that your audience will love, or you can use one of the many free or inexpensive tools available online.  Make your infographic helpful, value-packed, and fun. And don’t forget to add your business logo to promote your expertise.

4. Do online research to understand your customer’s pain points.  

What recurring problems do your customers want you to solve? If you’re not sure, go to online review sites such as Yelp, Angie’s List, or even Amazon and search for negative reviews from people who purchased your product or service from competitors.  

What made the customer so angry that they left a negative review? Look for patterns, and then re-engineer your product or service to solve those problems and give your company a built-in advantage.

5. Dig into LinkedIn Groups.  

How’s your LinkedIn profile?  Don’t fret if it could use some work.  A little time and creativity can help you create an engaging presence. Highlight what you do and how you help people.  Then join LinkedIn groups that are made up of both peers and potential customers. Network with peers to sharpen your skills and the potential customers to boost sales.

 Podcasts are still growing. There is room for new voices.  Podcasts are a free way for you to establish expertise and have your voice heard (literally!).  Bonus – invite people that you would like to meet to be guests on your podcast. This will give you an amazing guest list while helping you build relationships.

8. Make sure you are listed in Google My Business, Bing and Yahoo.  

A Google My Business listing lets Google know who you are and what you do.  Bing and Yahoo don’t have the same traffic but are still worth the investment of time to set up an accurate profile.

9. Create a Lead Magnet.  

Could you create a giveaway to drive traffic to your website?  It’s not hard to do if you have a branded informational product that you can give out in exchange for an email address.  

This accomplishes at least three things:

  • It helps you create an email list
  • It gets potential customers to your website
  • It lets you put branded content out to the world

Next level thinking – create a funnel that exposes website visitors to higher value offerings.

10. Dedicate time to Social Media.  

When you’re busy running a business, posting to social media may seem like the last thing you have time for.  But consistent posting will help you create an audience that engages with your content. Create a posting schedule and carve out 15 minutes a day to post and respond to comments.  You’ll build traction over time.

Check meetup.com to see if there any meetups related to your nice happening in your area.  If so, show up and contribute expertise. If not, even better! You can start your own meetup and be the expert in the room.

14. Industry Partnerships.  

Can you partner with another business that delivers different services to the same customer base?  For instance, a house painter could partner with an HVAC company to pass referrals back and forth. Add commission percentage to really boost motivation!

15. Join a professional organization.

Whether it’s BNI or your local Chamber of Commerce (or both), invest some time and a little money into networking opportunities.  People do business with people that they know, like and trust. Professional organizations are great ways to kickstart that process.

    Nice ideas! But I think to get the results we need to dig deep in each ideas for get better ROI.
